Field trials

Scope of the field trial results in the two areas

Updates from February 2015 (after rain season 2014-15)

Farmers at Ha-Lambani in the Limpopo Province identified low erratic rainfall and poor soil fertility as some of the factors limiting crop production. Nitrogen (N) is required by crops in comparatively larger amounts than other elements to produce optimum yield. Based on farmers fertilization methods, a field trial was designed to evaluate the effects of three levels of N fertilization on three drought tolerant maize varieties.

Variation amongst the different nitrogen fertilizer plots are observed, as some maize have darker green colour than others, while some leaves have pale yellowing colour. The maize is at reproductive growth stage as some tassels are visible on the pictures.
